Dr. J.G. Ray is an accomplished interdisciplinary biologist with a Ph.D. in Soil Ecology from Dnipropetrovsk National University, Ukraine, and postgraduate expertise in Ecology and Environmental Lead Auditing.

He has over 40 years of experience in teaching and research, including 18 years as Associate Professor of Botany at St. Berchmans College.

He joined Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, as Professor at the School of Biosciences, where he also served as Director, retiring in 2023 as Senior Professor after 12 years of service.

Currently, he serves as Director of Biosciences at St. Berchmans Autonomous College and continues to guide Ph.D. scholars as Invited Faculty at M.G. University.

Dr. Ray has led international collaborations with the USSR Academy of Sciences, Sophia University (Japan), Eastern Connecticut University (USA), and conducted a UKIERI-DST workshop with Swansea University (UK).

He has completed five major research projects funded by national agencies and secured a ₹1.5 crore grant under the Government of Kerala’s PLEASE Scheme.

A prolific academic, he has authored over 100 research publications in high-impact international journals.

He has chaired the Board of Studies in Botany and Biosciences, playing a pivotal role in shaping curriculum and promoting academic excellence at the university level.
